Magical Sage Moon Water

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

Learn how to make your own Magical Sage Moon water to cleanse your aura, clear the mind, improve digestion and get a better night's sleep.

For thousands of years, man has revered the moon as a mystical, divine force. In ancient times, medicinal plants and botanicals were the used in conjunction with the moonlight to purify, empower and connect man to the divine. One popular favourite was moonlight infused tinctures, teas or elixirs that captured the mythical powers of this silvery, luminous orb.

These magical concoctions were often used for divination, increasing psychic ability, connecting with supernatural forces and for granting fertility or everlasting life to the drinker. During the Qin dynasty, ancient Chinese texts mention a secret herbal drink prepared under full moonlight known as Soma. Soma is an obscure and unknown plant believed to supernaturally sprout and grow where the full moon's beams touch the Earth. This legendary plant born from the union of earth and moon, was thought to imbue mystical, supernatural powers and immortality. It was the key ingredient in the legendary "Elixir of life" , diligently sought after by China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang.

All lore aside, the moon's gravitational pull has been scientifically proven to effect all animals, plants and bodies of water. It is she, the mysterious mistress of the cosmos, who enchantingly pulls and pushes the tides in oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. Evermore, the moon bears a mysterious power on the fluids in our own human bodies and affects the circulation of bodily fluids, notably the digestive and lymphatic system. Our bodies are 60 % water, so the moon controls the tides within us as well. Plants tend to produce and divulge more of their own fluids in the form of essential oils, fruits and chemical healing properties, depending on the cycles of the moon in which they are planted and harvested. The synergy of the moon with the planet, stars and all of the beings she shines on, creates a synergistic and wondrous affect on all life.

Perhaps the most widely known and used magical herb during full moon rituals for cleansing, clearing and opening the third eye chakra is Sage (Salvia officinalis) . Native Americans have burnt this aromatic to drive away evil spirits, cleanse the body and for ceremonial purification. You might recognise and associate sage with the now main stream "smudging wand" used to clear "bad vibes", but in fact it is so much more! It was also ingested for healing and is still prized as medicine by native tribes in Americas.

Sage has many benefits that can heal, boost immunity and boost our overall wellbeing. It is packed with minerals and antioxidants, such as ellagic acid and rosmarinic acid (also found in rosemary). Many herbalists and ethnobotanists claim that sage tea can help with certain health conditions, promote weight loss, ease menopause and improve hair health.

Below I offer a list of its benefits and an easy recipe that harnesses that otherworldly moon energy and the holistic healing qualities of sage. This sage full moon water can be drunk cold or warm and can be sprinkled or sprayed as a mist in your space and on your person to energise the entire body, clear the Auric field, release toxic emotions and empower intuitive influences.

Some of the Benefits of Sage Tea:

  • Alleviates Chest pain ( Angina pectoralis)

  • Soothes a sore throat

  • Is anti-inflammatory

  • It is anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-microbial

  • Promotes oral health

  • Eases heartburn

  • Improves cognitive function

  • Improves mood ; uplifting

  • Improves blood sugar control

  • Promotes strong, shiny hair, healthy skin and wound healing

  • Subdues Insomnia

This Infusion is to be prepared on a full moon.

You'll Need:

  • A sterile Mason jar, jar or bottle with a tight lid.

  • Dried Sage leaves ( I find dry leaves work best but you can use fresh, just use a handful rather than 1 tsp.)

  • Boiling water

  • A writable sticky label

  • Waterproof marker or pen

  • A favourite crystal that aligns with your intention, or one or all of these crystals. For this current Virgo moon I like:

Moon stone ( fertility; strengthens intuition), Clear quartz ( clarity and empowerment), Amethyst (opens communication to divine), Green Calcite ( invokes compassion and heart healing, forgiveness), Amazonite ( protects against electromagnetic stress, soothes a busy mind).

Method:

This makes one cup, but you can use the 1:1 ratio to fill your jar to its full volume.*( 1 tsp sage leaves to 1 cup hot water)

  • Write an intention you would like to see to completion on your label and stick the label onto your jar or bottle. (Examples : Love, Forgiveness, Heath, Abundance, Peace)

  • Place 1 tsp sage leaves in your jar

  • Boil 1 cup of hot water and pour over 1 teaspoon of dried sage leaves. To make more than one cup, use the 1:1 ratio mentioned above.

  • Cover and place your chosen or all crystals on the top or around the bottle/ jar to charge under the full moon light. Steep 10 minutes.

  • Pour yourself a cup and feel free to add honey or chosen natural sweetener.

  • Sip it under the moonbeams while you meditate on your intention. Enjoy the magic!

  • Charge the moon water and crystals under the full moon light until dawn.

  • Set aside crystals and store jar in fridge; keep as a drink for 7 days or pour into a mist sprayer bottle and use as a facial hydrating spray or for cleansing and charging your space.

*It is recommended to drink under the full moon and up to one week after, 3 to 6 cups max daily. Due to it's naturally occurring chemical component, Thujone, it is not advised for pregnant or lactating women. Sage infusions should only be drunk for short periods of time, no more than a week or so.

Sweet dreams Moonbeams!
